About this course

Securing funding and generating income isn’t just about having a strong idea, it’s about knowing what your work really costs and setting a price that makes sense.  One concept sits at the heart of this course - the distinction between cost, need, and price. It's s deceptively simple and genuinely changes how you approach funding conversations.

Getting the Price Right is a practical e-learning course for charities and social enterprises which will give you the knowledge and confidence you need to cost out your projects and set an ask that appeals to funders and sustains your organisation.

This isn’t a course on bookkeeping or detailed budgeting. Instead, you’ll learn how to understand what you’re offering, what it truly costs to deliver, what your organisation needs financially, and how to turn that knowledge into stronger funding requests, smarter pricing, and more sustainable income.

If you've ever guessed what to charge, or worried about asking for too much or not enough, this course will help you make clear, well-founded decisions about money - and ask for what you genuinely need.

What you will learn

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Distinguish between cost, need and price,  and know why the difference matters when you're talking to funders
  • Confidently calculate the true cost of a project using Full Cost Recovery principles, so you're not underselling  your work
  • Make a well-founded decision about how to set your price or make a clear ask for any product or service
  • Balance your organisational needs with funder capacity – and know how to keep both parties satisfied
  • Put together transparent budgets that support strong funding applications

What you will take away

  • Confidence to stop second-guessing your numbers and start making well-founded decisions about money
  • A course handbook and resources - yours to download and keep -  with frameworks, prompts and tools to use in your day-to-day work and share with your team.
  • A new vocabulary for talking about your work, your costs and your needs with funders and commissioners
  • A clearer picture of your organisation's income landscape and where your best opportunities lie
